To get the death penalty you have to have taken someone elses life. But in some cases we could be killing someone who did not commit the crime. Sometimes the evidence that can prove someone is innocent can be dismissed in the court, because of the way the evidence was obtained. This has happened recently with Mr. Morton case, Mr. Morton was convicted in 1987 of killing his wife Christine Morton. Recently the DNA testing that was not allowed to be used during his trial has proved Mr. Morton was innocent, but has been locked up for twenty-five years. In the article current and past lawmakers are trying to get Governor Rick Perry, Attorney General Greg Abbott and Gray County District Attorney Lynn Switzer to test untested evidence in the case of the death penalty. I agree with this because the death penalty is for serious crimes, and I believe that people should be punished, but in the case of someones life we need to take this very seriously. Which means we need to be very careful and sure that the right person is getting punished, before we give them a punishment that is irreversible .
